Day 2

  1.     Hot, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet at UCCS-pancakes, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit and more!

  2.     All aboard the Cog Railway! Relax and watch in wonder as you climb to 14,110 feet above sea level to the summit of America’s favorite mountain – Pikes Peak. Your trip will take you through four life zones from lush high plains to fragile alpine tundra. You’ll pass cascading streams as you wind through a steep canyon of gigantic boulders and tall pines towards your destination well above tree line. It’s possible to see four states, the snow-covered peaks of the Continental Divide, the cities of Denver, Manitou Springs, Colorado Springs and the historic gold camps of Cripple Creek and Victor. You’ll enjoy fantastic rock formations, spectacular vistas and breathtaking cliffs all from the comfort and safety of the world’s highest cog train!

  3.     At the summit, participate in an optional 20 minute hike on the Barr Trail at over 14,000 feet.  Not only will you see tremendous views, but this is a great way to help your body get acclimated for Philmont!

  4.     Enjoy lunch at Giuseppe’s Depot.  Pizza, Pasta, Garlic Bread, and Brownies served trackside at the 140 year old building that was once a passenger train terminal for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad.

  5.     Hold on tight for whitewater rafting on the “Royal Gorge” section of the Arkansas River, the premier whitewater rafting experience in the southwest. It doesn’t get any better then this!

  6.     Western style cookout dinner hosted by the catering department our rafting outfitter. Pictures, laughs, and great food…What a way to end a fantastic day!

  7.     Return to the UCCS Dorms, evening spent at the recreation center.


        Day 3

  1.     Hot, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet at UCCS-pancakes, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit and more!

  2.     Review your homebound departure day pick up procedures and get your Blue Sky Adventures “give-a-ways and advisor tips” to make your trek even better

  3.     Transport to Philmont for arrival by 10:00 am


        Departure Day

  1.     7:30 AM pick up at Philmont.

  2.     Lunch en route at an all you can eat American buffet. You will enjoy the variety and quality of a hot meal you don’t have to mix with water!

  3.     1:30 PM arrival at Denver International Airport. Departure flight should leave after 3 PM.

    Day 1

  1.      Mid morning rendezvous with your Blue Sky Adventures tour guide at the Denver Airport. We will be waiting for you when you land and we will get you on your way as soon as possible.  You have your Blue Sky Adventures water bottle in hand so let’s get acclimated!

  2.     Your tour guide will be with you all day to make sure everything is fun and happens as planned.  The guide will bring Colorado “alive” with stories of local legends, history and culture. Your tour guide is one of the real difference makers on a Blue Sky Adventure!

  3.     Hot, all you can eat lunch at an American buffet...A Scout is HUNGRY!

  4.     Guided tour of the United States Air Force Academy. See one of the most visited sites in the United States, the Academy Chapel, and learn about the significance of its design.

  5.     Walk beneath one of the only mounted B-52 bombers in the world!

  6.     Time for a break with snacks and cold drinks for all!

  7.     Experience one of nature’s true wonders, the Garden of the Gods.  We will do a terrific hike from Kissing Camels to Balanced Rock! See Gateway Rock, the Central Garden, Scotsman Rock, and Siamese Twins!!

  8.     We end our day with a picnic on the terrace at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center.  BBQ sandwiches, Hot Dogs, chips, cookies and a clear view of magnificent Pikes Peak and the Garden of the Gods!

  9.     Check in at the Alpine Village Apartments located on the spectacular campus of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.  Every person gets their own bedroom inside of a 4 bedroom suite that shares a common room and 2 bathrooms.

  10.     Enjoy the pool, hot tub, basketball courts, and climbing wall at the University Recreation Center! What a day!
