Sunday

  • Mid day rendezvous with your Blue Sky Adventures professional tour guide at the Albuquerque Sunport Airport

  • Lunch at Blake’s Lotta’ Burger, a tasty New Mexico tradition. Try the Green Chile cheeseburger-it’s a local favorite!

  • Visit legendary “Sky City” at Acoma Pueblo. This 1,200 year old living Native American village, perched on a 400 foot mesa, will never be forgotten. It is a living history lesson rich with culture, beauty and fantastic stories of battles won and lost. At the end of the tour, which is conducted by a Native American, you will hike down the old trail through a crack in the rock which was the only way up to the village for centuries.


  • Good food and lots of it--- A taste of the Southwest with dinner at Pancho’s Mexican “all you can eat” buffet!


  • Check in to the beautiful Marriott Pyramid hotel in Albuquerque (pool, hot tub, fitness center, sauna, game room) ---this is some school trip!



Monday

  • Hot, delicious, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet at hotel!

  • A visit to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History. Did you know that dinosaurs once roamed New Mexico? That much of New Mexico rests on ancient volcanoes? That once this arid desert land was waterfront property? See all this and the IMAX movie at this intriguing and educational museum.



  • Experience the Manhattan Project and learn about it’s secret city and scientists; see “Fat Man” and “Little Boy” nuclear bombs from World War II at the Atomic Museum



  • Walking tour of lively, historic Old Town Albuquerque, established in 1706 and the heart of the Wild West in it’s day (stores, street entertainers, historic and cultural sites, native American artists)




  • Trip to the top of Sandia Peak; a breath taking ride on the world’s longest aerial cable car to the 10,400 foot mountain peak in Cibolla National Forest



  • Box lunch at the peak of Sandia Mountain

  • Transport to Cimarron, New Mexico, the gunfighter capital of the old Wild West

  • Dinner and lodging at Philmont Ranch, a 135,000 acre working cattle ranch at the base of the Sangre de Cristo mountains

  • Spend the evening getting outfitted with cold weather gear and learning survival techniques for your “Kanik” Ice Adventure

Tuesday

  • Breakfast in the dining hall


  • Start your Kanik Winter Experience. You will hike through the snow carrying your gear on sleds, learn to build snow caves for shelter, how to store and prepare meals in snow and cold weather conditions and spend the night in the snow cave you and your partner construct. This is a “hands on” lesson in leadership, teambuilding and self reliance.


Wednesday

  • Return to base camp, shower and turn in gear
  • Lunch in the Philmont dining hall
  • Visit one of the only known Tyrannosaurus Rex tracks in North America and ancient Indian Petroglyphs
  • Dinner in the dining hall
  • Evening tour of Villa Philmonte, built in 1926 and the summer home of oil baron Waite Phillips
  • Get lots of rest, tomorrow we hit the ski slopes of Angel Fire!

Thursday

  • Breakfast in the dining hall

  • Depart for Angel Fire Ski Resort



  • A day of snow skiing. Your day will start with equipment fitting for boots and skis. You will start with a two hour lesson based on your skill level, and then you ski till you drop! Unlimited lift ticket and equipment rental included.

  • Lunch

  • Check-in at Angel Fire Hotel

  • Dinner

Friday

  • Breakfast at hotel





  • Visit the Angel Fire Vietnam Memorial, a very special and mystical place. Pre-dating the “Wall” in Washington, D.C., this memorial is one man’s tribute to all who gave their lives in the Vietnam conflict.









  • See the Rio Grande Gorge, New Mexico’s version of the Grande Canyon. Eight hundred feet across and one thousand feet deep, millions of years ago the Gorge was cut through the desert by the mighty Rio Grande River. Both sides are connected by the longest suspension bridge in the country. It is a spectacular sight to see!



  • Visit to historic Taos, home to Kit Carson and the soul of the Southwest. See the plaza, the only place in the United States where Congress has authorized flying the United States flag 24 hours a day.


  • Lunch



  • Experience Bandelier National Monument as you hike through Indian ruins in mystical Frijoles canyon. Climb into ancient cliff dwellings and 140 feet up the canyon wall to the Ceremonial Cave. See Indian petroglyphs, pictographs and the Bat Cave.



  • Dinner in Santa Fe --all you can eat American buffet!

  • Box lunch at the El Malpais Visitor Center in Grants, New Mexico. “EL MAL-PIE-EES” which means “Bad Country” is a 590 square mile area of lava with volcanic cones, gaping craters, natural arches and lava tubes.




  • Visit to El Morrow or “Inscription Rock”. This was the conquistador’s newspaper in the 1500’s. Literally thousands of inscriptions are etched into this 400 foot tall, 30 acre sandstone rock. We will hike to the top of El Morrow and visit the ruins of a 1,400 year old Indian village.




  • Visit the Bandera Volcano and Ice Caves. Bandera Volcano rose up in volcanic fury some 10,000 years ago and is one of the most accessible volcanoes in the country. The Ice Cave is reached on an ancient lava trail to a collapsed lava tube. In the cave, the temperature never varies from 31 degrees and layers of perpetual ice glisten blue green.


  • Dinner at an “all you can eat” American buffet


  • Return to the Marriott Hotel in Albuquerque


Tuesday

  • Hot, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet at hotel!






  • Checkout of hotel and early departure for Bandelier National Monument








  • Experience Bandelier National Monument as you hike thru ancient Indian ruins in mystical Frijoles canyon. Climb into ancient cliff dwellings and 140’ up the canyon wall to the Ceremonial Cave. See Indian petroglyphs, pictographs and the Bat Cave.





  • Box lunch at scenic Bandelier. We eat by Frijoles Creek under the shady cottonwoods.


  • Visit Los Alamos, New Mexico and the Bradbury Museum of Science. Experience the Manhattan Project and learn about it’s secret city and scientists; see “Fat Man” and “Little Boy” nuclear bombs from World War II.


  • Transport to Taos, New Mexico


  • Check in to Taos hotel (large outdoor pool, hot tub, and a shady courtyard for mountain gazing)


  • Dinner at Michael’s in Taos, New Mexico. It is “the” local spot in Taos for good food!


  • Evening spent pool side at the hotel or walk to the Taos movie theatre, a half block away

Wednesday

  • Hot, all you can eat, full breakfast buffet at hotel!


  • See the Rio Grande Gorge, New Mexico’s version of the Grande Canyon.
